Afro-Textured Hair

I googled the word "nappy/kinky" hair and the result was a page from Wikipedia Encyclopedia.  It referred to "nappy/kinky" hair as Afro-textured hair.  As well, hair that has not been altered by hot combs, flat irons, or chemicals.  It stated that each strand of this hair type grows in a tiny spring-like, helix shape.  The overall effect is such that Afro-textured hair appears and feels denser than its straight counterparts.  Furthermore, its unique shape additionally renders it very prone to breakage when combed or brushed.  With regards to structure, all human hair types have the same basic chemical composition in terms of Keratin Protein content.  However, this hair type is most difficult to categorize due to the many different variations it has from person to person. Wow!  Is it safe to say that Afro-textured hair with its own unique qualities and possibilities of beauty is just as beautiful as its straighter counterparts?

Old Hairdryers And Curling Irons

Old hairdryers and curling irons should never be thrown in the trash.  Instead, they should be recycled for their scrap metal.  Scrap metal recyclers will remove anything that contains at least 50 percent steel.  Since scrap metal can be melted down over and over again,  the need to mine for metals is eliminated.  Thus, protecting the earths' natural resources.

Tangle Free

When shampooing, try not to rub the hair in a circular motion with the palm of the hands. This may create lather, but it also creates tangles. Instead, try creating lather by gently running fingers and hands through the hair with a front to back motion, as if you were brushing or combing the hair. Repeat shampoo process at least twice, then condition. After conditioning, comb through the hair during the rinse. Hair is easier to comb through when water is running through it.

How Manageable Is Your Hair?

At some point we all have problems with unmanageable hair. But what can we do to have more manageable hair most of the time?

First of all, having manageable hair is no different than managing any other part of your life. You must set aside time and create a routine. Like a good exercise program, having fit hair will require some consistency and a balanced plan that will work for you. Will you make time for a morning, afternoon, or evening routine? How much time will you put aside? Will it be half an hour or an hour? How many days a week? What will you do and what products will you use? Answering these questions is a good start. Let's face it, neglected hair never looked good on anyone.

Rapid Growth

What really causes hair to grow fast? How you care for your hair has a lot to do with how fast it will grow. First of all, be gentle to your hair. Second, keep your hair clean; clogged pores keep the scalp from breathing. Third, moisturizing shampoos and conditioners will keep the hair from drying out, and protein conditioners will strengthen the hair. Remember, keep your styling routine simple. Finally, don't over brush or comb the hair, this increases damage and hair loss.

What A Good Conditioner Should Do

A good conditioner should do a few things. It should strengthen, replenish and moisturize the hair. It should also leave hair feeling soft and manageable. Since hair is made of protein, it needs protein to stay healthy. Without it, hair will weaken, especially if the hair is chemically treated. Hair also needs to be replenished with moisture. All the blow drying and styling leaves the hair dry and brittle. In some cases, climatic conditions will cause hair to be drier than usual. Finally, softer, more manageable hair means fewer tangles to comb through.

What Goes In Must Come Out

It would be wise to be mindful of what we put on our hair.  What goes on the hair could have side affects on our health.  Be sure to read labels and inquire about the names of ingredients that you are unsure of.  That way, you can enjoy your favorite hair and skin care products without the danger of harming your self.

Healing Starts On The Inside

I have met numerous ladies and gentlemen who have one type of hair issue or another.  The one thing that each individual has in common is the ability to heal.  It is my belief that all healing takes place on the inside first.  By starting on the inside, one can look at the emotional, psychological, and spiritual awareness or lack of awareness that could be connected to ones physical wellness.

The Damage And The Weave

The damage done to hair from wearing Hair Weaves is a common, yet quiet kept secret among those that frequently wear them.  You see, when the hair and scalp can't breathe, it creates a problem for the life of the hair follicle.  It weakens and falls out at the root, leaving a bald spot.  If you enjoy wearing Hair Weaves, be mindful of the side affects that are very damaging to your natural hair.  Consult with your hair dresser and make sure that your natural hair is kept healthy while wearing your weave.
